Welcome. This is the website for the SlackEee project. SlackEee essentially refers to the process of installing and configuring Slackware on the ASUS EeePC. The EeePC's hardware is quite new and/or unsupported by Linux out of the box, but it is possible to get it working properly.

Disclaimer: This project is intended for the Eee 701. I have never tested it on a 900/1000 series Eee. In fact, there are known issues with those models and this software, but that doesn't mean you can't fix them!

Slackware 12.2 is out.  Also, there's increased compatibility with the EeePC.  Wifi works out of the box, so does X and a few other things.  I won't be building a slim kernel for this one, since the default kernel picks up the SSD as /dev/sda and is fast.  ATL2 still needs to be compiled, but that's simple.  I may post a package of that for you all.  As always, discussion and all the good stuff in the forums.

I began keeping a ChangeLog for this project. There's a link to it on the side menu. Feel free to follow it.

I have upgraded to a 2.6.25.3 kernel. Packages are available here. I have also removed the 2.6.24.3 kernel from the site, since it doesn't work quite as well as the 2.6.25.3 does. I added some patches and hacks to the new kernel. These include:

-A patch to speed up I/O to the SSD
-A series of patches and hacks to properly enable USB_PERSIST in the kernel
-SquashFS and UnionFS support. You can now shrink your install size (mine was well over a gig of savings!)
-All drivers/modules are included

As always, feedback/questions in the forums, please.

Packages and sources for SlackEee 12.1 are out. Please see the packages and drivers directories for more information. Similar to SlackEee 12.0, the kernel for 12.1 uses a SCSI base, so your HDD will be sda instead of hdc. I strongly recommend installing GRUB over LILO, simply because of GRUB's ability to have references to two different root devices (hdc and sda in this case) without it complaining. I also recommend using UUIDs in /etc/fstab so you may boot into either kernel without worry. Post any issues in the forums.

Slackware 12.1 is out, as I'm sure most of you are aware. I'm looking into installing this onto my Eee really soon. I'm going to be building a new kernel, since having a slim kernel only makes sense for such a slim little unit. I will post my packages as soon as I get them to work sufficiently.
Note: I have changed the structure of some of the directories on the site. Check your links if you link directly to files.

First off, sorry for the lack of updates. I guess I've been pretty happy with my current Slackware install that I haven't felt the need to update very much. I would like to draw attention to this article, though. It's a great how-to in-progress dealing with the installation and configuration of Slackware on the Eee. Parts have been taken from dmiller and I, but they have contributed lots on their own, too. If you are stuck, feel free to check there for help, as well.

Also, I'm thinking of adding some contributors to this site. Is anyone interested? Are you experienced with Slackware on the Eee? Please post about it in the forums. Oh, and please, feel free to add to the wiki about anything regarding Slackware on the Eee. Thanks.

The reason for the lack of updates on this site is simply due to my being content with my current Eee setup.  If any of you have any new fixes, packages, etc., please feel free to post them in the forums and/or on the wiki.  Also, as I have previously mentioned, anyone who would like to be a regular contributor to this project (packages or whatever you can contribute), feel free to contact me and we'll see what you can do.

I have added a wiki to the site. I thought this would be a good place for people to upload Slackware packages and SlackBuilds. Also, it'll make it easier to write and manage how-to's. There's no content yet, but don't be afraid to share your knowledge and write up a bit for it!

I decided that I probably am not going to seek out the creation of a custom SlackEee install CD. Not only is my time limited, but getting the initrd.img created properly is giving me a bit of grief. If anyone wants to give it a shot, please, feel free to. An announcement in the forums would be an appropriate place to start.

Added a forum for posting questions. Most questions are being asked on the eeeuser.com forums, but in order to get better feedback, this would be a more appropriate place to ask. Also, still working on the ISO image of EeeSlack. I will keep news updates coming as necessary.
